CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Ed Edwards
What isCraniosacral therapy? Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a subtle and profound healing form. In a typical craniosacral session, you will usually lie (or sometimes sit) fully-clothed on a treatment couch. The therapist will make contact by placing their hands lightly on your body and tuning in. The first thing you will probably notice is a sense of deep relaxation, which will generally last throughout the session. This release of tension often extends into everyday life. Sometimes the benefits are not immediately noticeable but become obvious on returning to a familiar environment. The work is often deeply moving and exhilarating.
Craniosacral therapy is a deeply relaxing and sometimes profound therapy, suitable for all ages including newly born babies.
It supports the body’s own innate healing abilities.
The client is fully clothed and either lies down or sits, and touch is always gentle. There is no manipulation, enabling deep relaxation during treatments.
The session is led by the physical and emotional needs of the client.
There are many conditions that Craniosacral therapy may help with due to the deeply relaxing nature of the therapy and the support for the body’s own healing powers.
Why not try CST, it might be just the therapy for you - as it was for me when I tried it 15 years ago.
Craniosacral therapy and pregnancy. •

- The developing baby is not engaged with so can develop in a natural way; the treatment focuses on supporting the carrying mother. A relaxed mother creates a relaxed environment for the baby.
- Craniosacral therapy after pregnancy After the birth and the inevitable stresses, CST may provide support for the mother’s physical and emotional recovery with a few treatments. Lower back and hips may benefit from some support towards the body’s innate repair facility.
- Craniosacral therapy and baby. CST is very safe for babies and they may benefit from treatment at a very early stage. The birth process is very stressful on the baby’s body, CST is recognized by many midwives as a safe and beneficial treatment - creating a relaxed baby.
